The album cover was designed by Storm Thorgerson and Aubrey Powell of Hipgnosis. It features a photograph of the burning Hotel Chelsea, located in New York City.
The album was a commercial and critical success, reaching number one in several countries.
The album features the song “Wish You Were Here”, which is about the band’s former lead singer, Syd Barrett.
The album has been certified platinum by the RIAA.
