Charles Babbage is credited with the invention of the first computer. However, like many great inventions, Babbage’s computer was not the first of its kind. It was, however, the first to be designed with the specific purpose of computing.

Babbage was born in 1791 in England. He was a prodigy, and at the age of 14 he was admitted to the University of Cambridge. There, he studied mathematics and astronomy. He also began to develop his ideas for a mechanical computer.
