A monitor, or display, is an electronic visual display for computers. It produces an image that can be seen by the user. The image may be a photograph, drawing, or text.
Most monitors are either CRT (cathode ray tube) or LCD (liquid crystal display) type. CRT monitors use an electron gun to project the image onto a phosphor coated screen. LCD monitors use a light source to illuminate a matrix of liquid crystals, which selectively block light to create the image.
