On December 11, singer-songwriter-producer-DJ Erica Badu released her fifth album, New Amerykah, Part Two (Return of the Ankh). The album is a sequel to her 2008 release, New Amerykah, Part One (4th World War), and continues the neo-soul, Afrofuturist themes of the first album.
Badu has described the album as “a musical journey through the future tense of the past, the present and the imagined future.” The album features collaborations with Questlove, J Dilla, and Georgia Anne Muldrow, and was recorded in Badu’s home studio in Dallas, Texas.
