In 1951, computer scientist Willy Higinbotham created the first computer game – Tennis for Two. The game was a two-player simulation of a game of tennis, and was played on an oscilloscope.
Higinbotham’s game was not the first ever to be created, but it was the first to be played on a computer. It was also one of the first video games ever created.
Tennis for Two was a huge success, and was played by tens of thousands of people. It was even featured at the Brookhaven National Laboratory in 1958, where it was played by over 100,000 people.
