The Xbox One can play DVDs out of the box. Microsoft has not yet enabled Blu-Ray playback due to licensing costs, so DVD playback is all that is currently available.

To play a DVD on your Xbox One, put the DVD in the disc drive and wait for the console to recognize it. Once the DVD is recognized, the movie will start playing automatically. You can control the DVD playback using the Xbox One controller.
