An American Tail is a 1986 American animated musical adventure family film directed by Don Bluth and produced by Sullivan Bluth Studios and Amblin Entertainment. It tells the story of Fievel Mousekewitz and his family as they emigrate from the Russian Empire to the United States for freedom. The film was released on November 21, 1986, to critical and commercial success, grossing $47 million on a $22 million budget. It was followed by a sequel, Fievel Goes West, released in 1991.
