Who Built The First Computer?

There is no one answer to this question as there are several contenders for the title of “first computer builder.” However, the first computers were built in the early 1800s, so the contenders are mostly from that era.

One of the earliest contenders for the title of “first computer builder” is Charles Babbage, who designed and began to build the Analytical Engine in 1834. However, the machine was never completed.

Another contender is John Atanasoff, who designed the Atanasoff-Berry Computer (ABC) in 1937. However, this machine was not actually built until 1973.

Charles Babbage was an English mathematician, philosopher, and inventor who conceptualized and designed the first mechanical computer, called the Analytical Engine.

Born in 1791 in London, Charles Babbage showed exceptional talent in mathematics from a young age. He was educated at Cambridge University, where he developed a reputation as a gifted mathematician. He also developed an interest in philosophy, and in particular, the question of what constituted a valid logical argument.
