Smokey and the Bandit is a 1977 American action comedy film starring Burt Reynolds, Sally Field, Jerry Reed, and Jackie Gleason. The film was directed by Hal Needham and written by James Lee Barrett and Phil Eastman.
Smokey and the Bandit was the third highest-grossing film of 1977, and the highest-grossing film in the United States released in that year. It was the first film to feature the Black Pontiac Trans Am from the Pontiac division of General Motors. The car appeared in subsequent films in the series.
