A region-free Blu-ray player is a Blu-ray player that is not limited to playing discs from a certain region. For example, a player with the U.S.A. region code can only play discs with the U.S.A. region code, while a player with the “region-free” or “all-region” code can play discs from any region.

Region-free Blu-ray players first appeared in the early 2010s, after the release of the Blu-ray format. Manufacturers create region-free players by disabling the region code on the player’s firmware.
