The screenplay was written by Sharman and Richard O’Brien based on the musical stage production The Rocky Horror Show, which in turn is based on the 1973 British horror film The Rocky Horror Picture Show, directed by Sharman’s father, Ken. The film stars Tim Curry, Susan Sarandon, and Barry Bostwick along with cast members from the original stage production. The film was shot at Bray Studios in Water Oakley, Berkshire, England.
