The show is set in Pasadena, California and revolves around five male scientists who are roommates: Leonard Hofstadter and Sheldon Cooper, both physicists, Howard Wolowitz, an aerospace engineer, Rajesh Koothrappali, an astrophysicist, and, as of the eighth season, Amy Farrah Fowler, a neuroscientist.
