The Hubble Space Telescope computer, also called the back-end computer, is one of the most important systems on the telescope. It controls all the science instruments, collects and stores the data, and sends it back to Earth.
In May of 2017, the computer started experiencing problems. It began to fail frequently, and the science instruments stopped working. The telescope was unable to collect data, and scientists were unable to do any research.
