Super Audio CD (SACD) is a digital audio disc format jointly developed by Sony and Philips. Released in 1999, it was the first format to offer a higher resolution than standard CDs, and the first to use Direct Stream Digital (DSD), a proprietary lossless audio codec.

SACDs are playable on standard CD players, but require a SACD player to take full advantage of their capabilities. Compared to standard CDs, SACDs typically offer improved audio quality, wider frequency range, and a more spacious soundstage.
